Developer Marketplace

There are a lot of good ideas here.  Since this is a budding community with, I'm sure, a lot of talented people...has sPanel considered building a marketplace?  A plugin framework, if you will, for sPanel where other developers can write solutions and provide them for free, or at a cost, to users of sPanel?

Hi Dennis. First of all, I'd like to thank you for your active participation. I appreciate it! Regarding a marketplace, we actually thought about it but never built it because there were other useful features we had demand for (we still have!) and the marketplace idea was left behind. It will be so nice if more people get involved here with ideas how a marketplace would benefit everyone in the SPanel ecosystem. If we are to build such a marketplace it must be valuable for everyone and not just we trying to sell some stuff to people. Your feedback and suggestions here will be very useful in making SPanel better. Thinking about it as I write this maybe something like a way where everyone may add their services/products to the marketplace so everyone in the SPanel ecosystem may purchase them so at the end of the day it becomes a win-win. Thoughts? :)

I've participated in other eco systems w/a marketplace type setup that seemed to work pretty well.  I think the format would work for SPanel as well (I'm trying not to type sPanel any more!)

  1. SPanel Marketplace is hosted by you folks
  2. Developers sign up for an account to submit their plugins/extensions/whatever you'd call them
  3. Developers follow a specific plugin architecture dictated by SPanel
  4. Developers submit their plugin for code review from SPanel (This could include trusted community members, too, if SPanel found that appropriate)
  5. Once the plugin is signed off on, it becomes available in the marketplace for free OR purchase
  6. If a paid plugin, SPanel handles processing and takes a small % of the earnings to cover processing/infrastructure and the rest goes to the developer
  7. If a free plugin, then no fees will be incurred by the end user
  8. Modify SPanel to connect to the marketplace on behalf of the end user.  This allows SPanel to see what's been purchased, download and install
  9. The marketplace itself could be a plugin within SPanel so end users can purchase/install directly.

That's a simple high level view, there are nuances for sure, but could be a huge boost to SPanel's adoption.
